The government's Social Security Institute administers a system encompassing health care, retirement benefits, and select social allowances. This system extends to all workers in the private, public, and foreign sectors, including self-employed professionals.

Contributions

Payments into Ecuador's Social Security System differ based on the worker's employment status. For instance, privately-employed individuals contribute 9.45% of their employment-based earnings. Those who opt to contribute voluntarily are subject to a rate of 20.6% on their total income. Employers, in contrast, are obligated to contribute 12.15% of the total salaries paid.
